Utility of a Large Series of B‐Cell Precursor Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Cell Lines as a Model System

open access: yesCancer Medicine
Background In B‐cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (BCP‐ALL), chromosomal translocations are strongly associated with prognoses. RNA sequencing (RNA‐seq) is a powerful technology that reveals a close correlation between types of translocation ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

NSE and ProGRP Are Promising Markers for Diagnosis, Efficacy Evaluation, Follow‐Up Monitoring, and Prognosis of Small Cell Esophageal Carcinoma

open access: yesThoracic Cancer
Background To investigate the clinical implications of serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), neuron specific enolase (NSE), and pro‐gastrin‐releasing peptide (ProGRP) in small cell esophageal carcinoma (SCEC).

SPREADING PATTERN OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES: SUSCEPTIBLE INFECTED RECOVERED MODEL WITH VACCINATION AND DRUG-RESISTANT CASES (APPLICATION ON TB DATA IN INDONESIA)

open access: yesBarekeng
Mycobacterium tuberculosis is the causative agent of the infectious illness tuberculosis (TB). Indonesia is the world's third-highest TB burden country. TB transmission is prevented by the BCG vaccination.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Moving beyond animal models: enriched environments and human substance use disorders

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience
BackgroundPreclinical studies have shown that exposure to a multisensory, stimulating environment (environmental enrichment, EE) can prevent the development of addictive behaviors and reduce the risk of relapse in animal models.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Comparative characteristics of quantitative and structural chromosome abnormalities at the time of diagnosis and in relapses of acute myeloid leukemias

open access: yesMedičnì Perspektivi
Acute myeloid leukemias (AML) are a heterogeneous group of neoplasms of hematopoietic tissue, to determine the subtypes of which cytomorphological and cytochemical methods, immunophenotyping, cytogenetic and molecular genetic studies are carried out ...
