Parentage Analysis in a Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas) Population From French Polynesia Reveals a Tendency for Inbreeding and Unexpected Plasticity in Reproductive Behaviour

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
The reproductive systems of natural populations can significantly impact their genetic diversity by either preventing or promoting inbreeding. Therefore, it is crucial to have a comprehensive understanding of the mating system to evaluate a population's ...

Duck Orbivirus and Egg Production: A Newly Identified Duck Orbivirus Is the Etiological Agent of Egg Production Decline in Chinese Breeder Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Field samples from breeder duck farms with egg‐production decline were subjected to viral detection, genome sequencing, and virus isolation. Experimental infection demonstrated that duck orbivirus (DORV) causes a significant and persistent reduction in egg production in breeder ducks.

Skill relatedness and economic restructuring: the case of Bremerhaven

open access: yesRegional Studies, Regional Science, 2016
Evolutionary thinking suggests that past knowledge accumulation influences future growth opportunities. Old industrial regions’ inherited knowledge is often described as obsolete. Particularly, blue-collar workers’ difficulties in redeploying skills have

Seeds of regional structural change. The role of entrepreneurs and expanding firms in shaping local path dependencies [PDF]

open access: yes
This article studies path dependent regional structural change using a quantitative framework. Based on an inter-relatedness indicator, the degree to which local skill-bases exist and force local economies onto a path-dependent development trajectory is ...

Multimodal Integration of Protein Interactomes With Genomic and Molecular Data Discovers Distinct Rheumatoid Arthritis Endotypes

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a heterogeneous autoimmune disease characterized by clinical and molecular heterogeneity, notably in the presence of anti–cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) antibodies. Patients with CCP+ RA exhibit more severe disease progression and distinct treatment responses compared to patients with CCP− RA.

Association of Clonal Hematopoiesis With Incident, Late‐Onset, Seropositive Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Clonal hematopoiesis (CH), defined by acquired driver mutations in hematopoietic stem cells, is associated with many inflammatory diseases of aging. We investigated whether CH and its subtypes, CH of indeterminate potential (CHIP) and mosaic chromosomal alteration (mCA), are associated with incident rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and whether ...

ANK1 and EPB41 Variants and the Risk of Steroid‐Induced Osteonecrosis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Steroid‐induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (SONFH) is a refractory skeletal disorder influenced by genetic and environmental factors. However, conclusive pathogenic genetic evidence remains elusive due to the limited exploration of rare damaging variants. In this study, we aimed to identify rare variants associated with SONFH.

A gamified formative question bank to enhance student learning and engagement in a foundational medical science course

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract While gamified learning platforms show promise for engaging digital learners and promoting active learning, evidence of their effectiveness in predicting academic outcomes remains limited. This study examined how engagement patterns and incentives impact academic outcomes in a gamified environment to determine whether a formative question bank
