Relational Database Management System

Presenting the most current and thorough explanation of database systems, this book covers all the essentials. This book is considered a classic in the subject due to its thorough explanations and useful examples. Database application development and database systems concerns are two distinct but complementary areas of study, and instructors have wide ...

Access path selection in a relational database management system

Proceedings of the 1979 ACM SIGMOD international conference on Management of data - SIGMOD '79, 1979
In a high level query and data manipulation language such as SQL, requests are stated non-procedurally, without reference to access paths. This paper describes how System R chooses access paths for both simple (single relation) and complex queries (such as joins), given a user specification of desired data as a boolean expression of predicates.

Comparative analysis of the selected relational database management systems

2017 40th International Convention on Information and Communication Technology, Electronics and Microelectronics (MIPRO), 2017
The database management system is a software that enables easier work with databases i.e. to define database structure, retrieve stored data, enter data into the database and process the previously stored data in the database. In this article we have compared 3 relational database management systems (RDBMS) - Oracle 11g, MySQL and PostgreSQL.

Providing relational database management systems with hypertext

Proceedings of the Thirtieth Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 1997
We present a methodology for mapping relational database management systems (RDBMS) to hypertext, based on the hypertext model GHMI that we are developing. Applying hypertext functionality enhances the effectiveness of RDBMS for users. We illustrate the domain mapping between RDBMS and hypertext through bridge law examples which map database objects to

Engineering Data Management through a Relational Database Management System

1984
So far, most of the software developed for engineering applications were all program oriented rather than data oriented. Though Database Management System (DBMS) is widely used in commercial and business environment, it has hardly made any significant in-roads into engineering environment for engineering data.
