The derives_from relation in biomedical ontologies.
Studies in health technology and informatics, 2007This paper is part of the ongoing efforts within the framework of the Open Biomedical Ontologies (OBO) ontology library to optimize the treatment of relations in biomedical informatics. When ovum and sperm fuse to form a zygote, then the latter is derived from the former.

Towards a Formalization of Ontology Relations in the Context of Ontology Repositories
2011In the context of Semantic Web Search Engines is becoming crucial to study relations between ontologies to improve the ontology selection task. In this paper, we describe DOOR - The Descriptive Ontology of Ontology Relations, to represent, manipulate and reason upon relations between ontologies in large ontology repositories.

Relational Database as an Ontology Framework
2009In this paper we discuss application of relational data model and attributive logic as an alternative for knowledge modelling tools which are based on descriptive logic. Our experiences indicate that the most effective solution, capable of direct cooperation with majority of industrial information systems, which simultaneously provides decidability, is

Containment relations in anatomical ontologies.
AMIA ... Annual Symposium proceedings. AMIA Symposium, 2007In addition to parthood relations, containment relations are needed for describing the locations of anatomical individuals. My lungs are contained, but not part of, in my thoracic cavity. Urine is contained in, but not part of, the cavity of my urinary bladder. Ontologies such as the FMA and GALEN use containment relations extensively. However, the FMA'
