Vapour-Liquid Equilibrium Relationships in Extractive Distillation [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1952
THE advantages of using binary data to calculate the effect of a high-boiling solvent on the volatility of a pair of liquids have frequently been emphasized. Recently, a thermodynamic method of calculating the average value of the logarithm of the volatility ratio of the low-boiling pair (components 1 and 2) at a constant mole fraction of the high ...

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Profit Sharing Between Governments and Multinationals in Natural Resource Extraction: Evidence From a Firm-Level Panel [PDF]

open access: yes
The "fairness" of negotiations between countries and resource extracting firms is subject to many accusations and counter-accusations and may be argued, in many instances, to impact the subsequent economic benefit to a host country from extraction.

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

The oil extraction puzzle: theory and evidence [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper considers the relationship between the extraction rates and remaining reserves of a non-renewable resource. Under general conditions the derived extraction rule is firstly linear, and secondly exhibits a slope term common to all extractors ...

The solid phase distribution and bioaccessibility of potentially harmful elements in natural ironstone soils in the UK [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Chemical reactions and physical and biological processes influence the mobility of potentially harmful elements (PHEs) present within soils. In the UK, soil PHE such as arsenic (As), chromium (Cr) and nickel (Ni) occur at elevated concentrations in ...
