Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Body Image, Depression, and Self-Perceived Pornography Addiction in Italian Gay and Bisexual Men: The Mediating Role of Relationship Satisfaction

open access: yesMediterranean Journal of Clinical Psychology, 2021
The international literature has shown that self-perceived problematic pornography use is often related to lower levels of relationship satisfaction, as well as to higher levels of negative body image and depression. In this study, 158 Italian gay (65.8%)

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

The Satisfaction-Place Attachment Relationship: Potential Mediators and Moderators

open access: yes, 2015
Researchers use place satisfaction as a dependent variable extensively since place has implications for a range of performance measures. This study reverses the relationships suggesting place satisfaction as a useful antecedent to place attachment. Place

Validity of a Wearable Digital Insole for Assessing Gait ON and OFF in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Gait impairment is a distinctive symptom of Parkinson's disease that negatively impact mobility. We assessed the validity of wearable digital insoles against a validated reference gait analysis system for measuring select gait characteristics in patients with Parkinson's disease. Methods A comparative analysis between digital insoles

Parental relationship satisfaction, symptoms of depression and anger/hostility, and the moderating role of perceived social support—a prospective cohort study in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology
BackgroundThe challenging early parenthood time and the strains of the COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected parental mental health, whereas relationship satisfaction and perceived social support acted protective.

SPG4 and Dementia: Expanding the Clinical Spectrum

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) is a group of disorders characterized by progressive spasticity and lower limb weakness, with mutations in SPG4/SPAST being the most common cause. Detailed studies and clinical and molecular comparisons across different populations are missing.

The Influence of Prayer and Family Worship on Relationship Functioning among Married Adults in the Caribbean and Latin American

open access: yesReligions, 2019
Religion and its practice have been found to significantly influence marital satisfaction and quality. However, there is a paucity of research that has explored these relationships among married adults living in the Caribbean and Latin America.
