Motivated by the problem of storing coloured de Bruijn graphs, we show how, if we can already support fast select queries on one string, then we can store a little extra information and support fairly fast select queries on a similar string.

Relative Prices and Relative Prosperity [PDF]
The positive correlation between real investment rates and real income levels across countries is driven largely by differences in the price of investment relative to output. The high relative price of investment in poor countries is due to the low price of consumption goods in those countries. Investment prices are no higher in poor countries.

Commodity Market Heterogeneity and Cross-Market Integration
We evaluate the recent levels of heterogeneity and cross-market integration for fluctuations in commodity futures returns for a post-financial-crisis data sample. We find that a single commodity-market risk factor explains 30.6% of the total variation in

Igbo adjectives as morphophonologized relatives
Igbo adjectives are semantically, syntactically and morphophonologically derived. Underlyingly, they are relatives that are phonologized into a suppietive form. For this reason they cannot occur in predicative position, unlike adjectives in English. They

Strong-Coupled Relativity Without Relativity [PDF]
GR can be interpreted as a theory of evolving 3-geometries. A recent such formulation, the 3-space approach of Barbour, Foster and Murchadha, also permits the construction of a limited number of other theories of evolving 3-geometries, including conformal gravity and strong gravity.

A possible resolution of the incompatibility of quantum mechanics and general relativity is that the relativity principle is emergent. I show that the central paradox of black holes also occurs at a liquid-vapor critical surface of a bose condensate but is resolved there by the phenomenon of quantum criticality.

The need for a time-shift invariant formulation of quantum theory arises from fundamental symmetry principles as well as heuristic cosmological considerations.

This paper achieves, among other things, the following: • It frees the main result of [9] from the hypothesis of determinant class and extends this result from unitary to arbitrary representations. • It extends (and at the same times provides a new proof of) the main result of Bismut and Zhang [3] from finite dimensional representations of Γ to ...
