Accelerated Epigenetic Aging in Frontotemporal Dementia Highlights Smoking, Inflammation, and Metabolic Signals

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Epigenetic clocks are biomarkers of biological aging influenced by lifestyle and systemic factors. Accelerated epigenetic aging has been associated with neurodegeneration, but its relevance in frontotemporal dementia is unclear. We investigated biological aging in frontotemporal dementia using the GrimAge2 epigenetic clock, a DNA methylation ...

Compositionally Engineered Carboxymethyl Cellulose‐Based Optical Fibers With Exceptionally Low Optical Loss and Quantitative Humidity Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
Carboxymethyl cellulose‐based biopolymer optical fibers are fabricated using aqueous wet spinning. The fibers exhibit record‐low optical attenuation in polysaccharide‐based waveguides while maintaining efficient transmission across the visible‐to‐near‐infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Ultrafast RF Spectrum Analyzer Assisted by Optical Short‐Time Fourier Transform

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
We present Recent efforts in an ultrafast RF spectrum analyzer based on the short‐time Fourier transform (STFT) at over 10 MHz frame rate and over 40GHz bandwidth to improve performance and support applications. All these efforts could inspire more innovative applications of temporal imaging modalities in the future.

Testing Reinecke’s chronology of the Early Bronze Age with radiocarbon dating: new evidence from Southern Bavaria

open access: yes, 2020
In this article we present a critical view of the current chronological framework for Early Bronze Age burials from Southern Bavaria, by using radiocarbon dating to re examine Paul Reinecke’s relative chronological classification system.

Origin, evolution and biogeographic dynamics of the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) in Southwestern Europe

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The Pleistocene is a key period for understanding the evolutionary history and palaeobiogeography of the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). The species was first documented in southeastern Iberia at the beginning of the Middle Pleistocene and appears to have rapidly spread throughout Southwestern Europe, where it was found in numerous ...

New techniques for old bones: Morphometric and diffeomorphometric analysis of the bony labyrinth of the Reilingen and Ehringsdorf Neandertals

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Neandertals are known to possess very distinctive traits in their bony labyrinth morphology, such as an inferiorly positioned posterior canal and a very low number of turns in the cochlea. Hence, the inner ear has been often used to assess the Neandertal status of fragmentary fossils.

A Whitman Chronology

open access: yes
All Whitman scholars have encountered the frustration of trying to track down an event in Whitman's life-the last time he saw Peter Doyle, when he moved to his own home on Mickle Street in Camden, when he met Oscar Wilde.

Determining the timeline of gonadal and genital differentiation in male and female equine fetuses allows for early detection and intervention in malformations

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Sexual differentiation in the equine fetus involves coordinated morphogenetic processes that shape both the gonads and the genital ducts. Although the formation of testes and ovaries has been relatively well documented, the temporal dynamics and morphometric patterns of the mesonephric (Wolffian) and paramesonephric (Müllerian) ducts remain ...

Cortical bone distribution in the human mandibular symphysis: Ontogenic and morphometric approaches in archeological context

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The human mandibular symphysis concentrates multiaxial loads during function and remodels throughout growth, but the precise mechanisms underlying cortical bone shape during growth remain relatively unexplored. Approaches based solely on thickness or external cortical contours provide only partial insights and do not capture the functional ...
