Relative Efficiency of External Prestressing

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1995
In this paper, the efficiency of tendon profiles is examined for the internal and external prestressing of statically indeterminate structures. The statically indeterminate component of the total prestressing moment is shown to be significant for both parabolic and linear tendon profiles.

Asymptotic Relative Efficiency

1981
In any given inference situation, many statistical procedures may be available, both parametric and nonparametric. Some measure of their relative merits is needed, especially as regards their performance or operating characteristics. For instance, a comparison of the power functions of various tests of the same (or essentially the same) hypotheses ...

Relative efficiency in survival analysis

Journal of Chronic Diseases, 1983
The relative efficiency of analyzing the times to death vs the proportion surviving a fixed period when comparing the survival experience of two groups is examined. The two methods are compared with respect to trial duration for either fixed patient entry or cost and with respect to cost for fixed duration. When the ratio of median survival is equal to

Relative Packing Efficiency in Hydrates

Journal of Chemical & Engineering Data, 2009
We define two parameters, Πice and Πparent, estimated from hydrate and parent volumes, to be a measure of the efficiency of the packing of molecules in a hydrate compared on the one hand to that of idealized solid ice and on the other to the parent molecule from which the hydrate is derived.

Relative Efficiency of Voting Systems

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1983
Most comparisons of voting systems have focused on the outcomes of the elections and on the propensity of the systems to elect Condorcet winners. In this analysis, the emphasis is on the voters and the effectiveness of sincere voting on their part. The relative efficiency of sincere voting is defined to be the ratio of the maximum expected “gain” (in ...

Relativity and Efficient Taxation

Southern Economic Journal, 1987
Research by Frank [3; 4; 5], Van de Stadt, Kapteyn and Van de Geer [7], Layard [6], and Easterlin [2] suggests that the tax consequences of Duesenberry's relative income hypothesis [1] deserve investigation. The "relativity" hypothesis contends that when one person increases his income, he imposes utility losses on others. If the hypothesis is correct,

Unions, Relative Wages, and Economic Efficiency

Journal of Labor Economics, 1983
The ability of unions to raise the wages of their members above the wages of similar but nonunionized workers is well documented. This paper examines empirically the implications of that wage differential for resource allocation and economic efficiency.

Relative Efficiency of International Airlines

Anais do(a) 3rd Eu International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management, 2019
In this paper the results are published of a post-doctorate research done at the Brazilian Aeronautics Technological Institute (ITA) in 2006. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate and to discuss the relative efficiency of the main Brazilian carriers in the period from 2000-2006 by comparing their operational and relative efficiency with ...

Relative Efficiency of Intermunicipal Provision

1998
The intermunicipal arrangement is one of the opportunities municipalities can use to redece their budget problems. Intermunicipal arrangements, privatizing activities, such as contracting out, and straightforward budget cuts were popular instruments used in response to the fiscal squeeze during the ‘eighties. It is conceivable that the establishment of

Relative efficiency of radiation sources for photopolymerization

Odontology, 2009
The aim of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of new-generation light-emitting diode (LED) units in comparison with the conventional tungsten-halogen, plasma arc, and first-generation LED units reported in our previous study. The irradiance of light from new-generation LED units, the temperature rise of the bovine enamel surface, and the ...
