Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

Calculation of the magnetic field in the active zone of a hysteresis clutch [PDF]

open access: yes
The initial distribution of magnetic induction in the armature stationary was calculated relative to the polar system of a hysteresis clutch. Using several assumptions, the problem is reduced to calculating the static magnetic field in the ferromagnetic ...

Relative Permeability Scaling From Pore‐Scale Flow Regimes

open access: yesWater Resources Research, 2019
Relative permeability measurements are commonly fitted with the Corey and Brooks‐Corey correlations. Despite such correlations fit experimental data generally well, they are mostly of an empirical nature.

Multifunctional Crushing and Piezoresistive Self‐Sensing in Conductive Epoxy/CNT‐Coated Polyetherimide TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports lightweight polyetherimide triply periodic minimal surfaces lattices coated with carbon nanotube‐reinforced epoxy that combine mechanical robustness with self‐sensing. The conformal coating enhances stiffness, strength and energy absorption while enabling reliable strain monitoring.

Core Losses in Co-Rich Inductors with Tunable Permeability [PDF]

open access: yes
High frequency, low loss power systems enable electrified aircraft propulsion. Filter inductors that reduce noise in high current systems can account for 50% of the motor drive mass.

Measurements of CH4 and CO2 relative permeability in hydrate-bearing sandstone

open access: yesJournal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2019
This paper reports measurements of relative permeability to methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) in hydrate-bearing sandstone core samples. The CH4 (or CO2) permeability was measured at reservoir conditions for different hydrate and brine saturations ...

Copper Nanocrystallization in Anodic Oxide Films of Ti–Cu‐Based Bulk Metallic Glass and Its Effect on the Corrosion Resistance and Cytocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Viktoriia Shtefan, Thorgund Nemec, Ute Hempel, Annett Gebert and coworkers demonstrate that anodic treatment of Ti–Cu‐based metallic glass in a nontoxic pyrophosphate electrolyte forms a protective bilayered Ti/Zr‐oxide film enriched with Cu nanocrystals.

Imaging and Measurement of Pore‐Scale Interfacial Curvature to Determine Capillary Pressure Simultaneously With Relative Permeability

open access: yesWater Resources Research, 2018
There are a number of challenges associated with the determination of relative permeability and capillary pressure. It is difficult to measure both parameters simultaneously on the same sample using conventional methods.
