Relative Prices and Relative Prosperity [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Economic Review, 2007
The positive correlation between real investment rates and real income levels across countries is driven largely by differences in the price of investment relative to output. The Relative Price of Services [PDF]

Prices of GDP relative to the exchange rate increase with income per capita, which is known as the Penn‐effect. This is generally attributed to services being cheaper relative to goods in poorer countries. In this paper we re‐examine the Penn‐effect based on a new set of PPPs for industry output.
