Cumulated Relative Position: A Metric for Ranking Evaluation [PDF]
The development of multilingual and multimedia information access systems calls for proper evaluation methodologies to ensure that they meet the expected user requirements and provide the desired effectiveness. IR research offers a strong evaluation methodology and a range of evaluation metrics, such as MAP and (n)DCG.

Relative Saliency and Ranking: Models, Metrics, Data and Benchmarks [PDF]
Salient object detection is a problem that has been considered in detail and \textcolor{black}{many solutions have been proposed}. In this paper, we argue that work to date has addressed a problem that is relatively ill-posed. Specifically, there is not universal agreement about what constitutes a salient object when multiple observers are queried ...

When (and why) absolute decision attribute values influence human preferences
Relative rank models of risky decision-making suggest that human preferences are informed by sampled (and not absolute) values and their relative ranks.

Relative rank and regularization
Abstract We introduce a new concept of rank – relative rank associated to a filtered collection of polynomials. When the filtration is trivial, our relative rank coincides with Schmidt rank (also called strength). We also introduce the notion of relative bias. The main result of the paper is a relation between these two quantities over finite fields

Relative rank statistics for dialog analysis [PDF]
We introduce the relative rank differential statistic which is a non-parametric approach to document and dialog analysis based on word frequency rank-statistics. We also present a simple method to establish semantic saliency in dialog, documents, and dialog segments using these word frequency rank statistics.

Beyond preferential attachment: falling of stars and survival of superstars
Numerous studies over the past decades established that real-world networks typically follow preferential attachment and detachment principles. Subsequently, this implies that degree fluctuations monotonically increase while rising up the ‘degree ladder’,

Optimizing Finite Population Mean Estimation Using Simulation and Empirical Data
Two-phase sampling is an effective sampling approach that is useful in sample surveys when prior auxiliary information is not available. When two variables have an association, the ranks of the auxiliary variable are proportional to the study variable ...
