Examples of Relatively Hyperbolic Groups

Geometriae Dedicata, 2002
The author uses ideas on weak hyperbolicity and relative hyperbolicity which originate in work of Gromov. He uses the following definition of weak hyperbolicity that has been formulated by \textit{B. Farb} [in Geom. Funct. Anal. 8, No. 5, 810-840 (1998; Zbl 0985.20027)].

Existential questions in (relatively) hyperbolic groups

Israel Journal of Mathematics, 2009
The `existential theory' of a group is the set of all sentences of first order logic, in the language of groups, that contain only existential quantifiers \(\exists\) and that evaluate to true in \(G\). Each such sentence is equivalent to the existence of a solution of the disjunction of finitely many finite systems of equations (of the form \(x_1x_2 ...

A topological characterisation of relatively hyperbolic groups

Journal für die reine und angewandte Mathematik (Crelles Journal), 2004
The notion of a relatively hyperbolic group was introduced by M. Gromov and has been elaborated on in various papers. As hyperbolic groups generalize fundamental groups of compact hyperbolic manifolds, the relatively hyperbolic groups generalize fundamental groups of hyperbolic manifolds of finite volume.

Boundaries of Relatively Hyperbolic Groups

Boundaries of relatively hyperbolic groups are useful invariants that have been studied extensively. This work uses the boundary to show that a certain class of groups is closed under quasi-isometry, and shows that there is not generic behavior of the boundary of a free group with a random cyclic peripheral structure.
