"Identity and Judgment: Five Theses and a Program" [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
The theses and program below ask about judgment and tradition in a self-consciously plural world. The little program points down a path I am exploring in a pair of texts, one on notions of identity in the history of philosophy, and one on the identity of

The Other “in” the Self: The sense of self and the threat of relativism

open access: yesRivista di Estetica, 2014
On the traditional view, a sense of selfhood appears relatively late in infancy, since to be, or to possess, a self is taken to require such capacities as language and metacognition.

Synthesis of Alumanyl Silyl Coinage Metal Complexes and their Reactivity Toward CO2

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
Alumanyl silyl‐substituted coinage metal complexes are synthesized and structurally characterized employing nuclear magnetic resonance and x‐ray diffraction measurements. The substituent effect of the silyl group on the respective coinage metal centers is investigated by regioselective CO2 capturing.

Respect as the Ethic of the Open Society [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Karl Popper’s description of the open society in terms of respect, rather than mere tolerance, appears to be highly relevant today. Although he never explicitly addressed the issues of multiculturalism and valuepluralism in contemporary societies ...

Simplicity, Relativizations and Nondeterminism [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Computing, 1985
Relativizations of complexity classes in which simple sets exist are considered. A recursive oracle is constructed relative to which a simple set exists for NP. Some other general theorems are proven, showing that the time bounds are not a crucial hypothesis; bounds on the way in which the oracle is accessible, namely the number of queries and/or the ...

In Pursuit of Low Energy Phosphorescence: Late Metal Coordination Complexes of the Planar, π‐extended Bipyridyl Ligand 6,6′,7,7′‐Biphenanthridine

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract The coordination chemistry of the planar, doubly π‐extended bipyridine analog, 6,6′,7,7′‐biphenanthridine (p‐biphe), is presented. The phenanthridine units in p‐biphe are fused together at the 6‐ and 7‐ positions, and the resulting rigid ligand is compared with the more flexible parent “biphe” fused only at the 6‐positions.
