Dynamics of relativistic jets

New Astronomy Reviews, 1998
Abstract We discuss the structure and relativistic kinematics that develop in three spatial dimensions when a moderately hot, supersonic jet propagates into a denser background medium and encounters resistance from an oblique magnetic field. Our simulations incorporate relativistic MHD in a four-dimensional spacetime and clearly show that (a ...

General Relativistic Magnetohydrodynamical Models of Relativistic Jets

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2007
The general relativistic magnetohydrodynamical approximation is used to study plasma flows near rotating black holes and the formation of jets. The magnetized jet from the rotating black hole is found to be efficiently accelerated to Lorentz factors of Γ ≳ 10. The magnetized jet is collimated by the corona, which has a wind component that reaches Γ ≲ 3.

Relativistic Jets in SS433

Physics Bulletin, 1981
The star SS433 is a cosmic physics laboratory testing special relativity and the Doppler effect, not to mention the theory of supernovae and black holes.

Steady, Relativistic Magnetized Jet

1992
The method of characteristics has been used to solve numerically the equations of steady special relativistic MHD flows. The authors show some preliminary results which investigate the effects of a dynamically important toroidal magnetic field on the propagation of weak pressure discontinuities.
