Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

The effect of age and initial compression on the force relaxation response of the femur in elderly women

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2022
The effect of force amount, age, body weight and bone mineral density (BMD) on the femur's force relaxation response was analysed for 12 donors (age: 56–91 years). BMD and fracture load, FL, were estimated from clinical CT images.

SIRT1 reduces endothelial activation without affecting vascular function in ApoE-/- mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) contributes to progression of atherosclerosis, at least in part by causing endothelial dysfunction and inflammatory activation. The class III histone deacetylase SIRT1 has been implicated in extension

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Integral representation of the viscoelastic relaxation function

open access: yes上海师范大学学报. 自然科学版, 2019
In this paper, the integral representation of relaxation function is discussed. The stress-strain relationship equation of Maxwell model is obtained by Laplace transformation.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Exponential decay of solutions to a fourth-order viscoelastic evolution equation in R^n

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2010
In this article, we consider a Cauchy problem for a viscoelastic wave equation of fourth order. Under suitable conditions on the initial data and the relaxation function, we show that the rate of decay is exponential.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Energy decay in thermoelasticity type III with viscoelastic damping and delay term

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2012
In this article, we consider a thermoelastic system of type III with a viscoelastic damping and internal delay. We use the multiplier method to prove, under suitable assumptions, general energy decay results from which the exponential and polynomial ...
