DYNAMICS OF RELAXATION OSCILLATIONS

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2001
Relaxation oscillations are characteristic of periodic processes consisting of segments which differ greatly in time: a long-time span when the system is moving slowly and a relatively short time span when the system is moving rapidly. The period of oscillation, the sum of these contributions, is usually treated by singular perturbation theory which ...

Relaxation oscillations: Synchronization and chaos

Doklady Physics, 2011
The authors present an example of an exothermic reaction, which interacts by means of heat exchange. This problem is investigated by numerical modeling, and the model is described by a system of ordinary differential equations with strongly non-linear sources. The coupling coefficient serves as a bifurcation parameter.

Local hysteresis in relaxation oscillators

Physical Review A, 1989
Relaxation oscillations are very commonly found in nature. When modulation by an external force is present, a global hysteresis connected with chaos is often encountered. In addition to this kind of hysteresis a qualitatively different ``local'' form is found in some systems. We describe the circumstances under which one observes local hysteresis.

Chemical instabilities and relaxation oscillations

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1971
Abstract The behaviour of a chemical system beyond a non-equilibrium unstable transition is analysed in the limit of a large separation of time scales characterizing the individual chemical steps. It is found that the system may exhibit in this limit relaxation, or quasi-discontinuous type oscillations.

Laser relaxation-oscillation frequency imaging

Optics Letters, 2001
We describe a new imaging technique based on modification of laser relaxation frequency induced by coherent optical feedback from an external target. A direct comparison (both theoretical and experimental) is made with laser feedback interferometry techniques, in which there is a modification of the laser's steady state.

BISTABILITY OF HARMONICALLY FORCED RELAXATION OSCILLATIONS

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2002
Relaxation oscillations appear in processes which involve transitions between two states characterized by fast and slow time scales. When a relaxation oscillator is coupled to an external periodic force its entrainment by the force results in a response which can include multiple periodicities and bistability.

Relaxation self-oscillations in neuron systems: III

Differential Equations, 2011
Consider the diffusively coupled system of delay-differential equations modelling the interaction of \(m\) neurons \[ {du_j\over dt}= d(u_{j+1}- 2u_j+ u_{j-1})+ \lambda[-1+\alpha f(u_j(t- 1))-\beta g(u_j)] u_j\;j= 1,\dots, m,\tag{\(*\)} \] with \(m\geq 2\), \(u_{m+1}= u_m\), \(u_0= u_1\) under the assumptions (i) \(\alpha\), \(\beta\), \(d\), \(\lambda\

Relaxational Intensity Oscillations

1972
In this chapter we shall consider transients in a resonator containing a uniformly excited active medium. Homogeneity of the medium presupposes both uniformity of the pumping and uniformity of the intensity distribution of the generated light.†
