Can prisons move people into better jobs? A look at correctional vocational training programs and sectoral employment outcomes

open access: yesCriminology, EarlyView.
Abstract Three‐quarters of US prisons offer vocational training programs, which aim to place trainees in middle‐skills jobs in specific occupational sectors post‐release. These middle‐skills jobs may more effectively reduce recidivism than the jobs that normally characterize the labor market experience of the formerly incarcerated, yet whether ...

The Evolution of Male Weapons Is Associated with the Type of Breeding Site in a Clade of Neotropical Frogs

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Male weaponry evolution is often linked to male–male competition, but its relationship with breeding site type remains unclear. Using Leptodactylinae frogs, we found a macroevolutionary correlation between breeding site type and weapon evolution. Also, gains and losses of weapons occurred more frequently in exposed‐breeding sites, an unexpected finding.

Treating preschooler behavioural sleep problems via parent‐mediated telehealth: A randomized controlled trial

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Behavioural sleep problems in the preschool developmental period (ages 3–5 years) are highly prevalent and associated with a myriad of deleterious consequences including anxiety, in the short‐ and long‐term. This study examined a parent‐focused behavioural sleep intervention for children aged from 3 to 5 years, delivered ...

A systematic review and meta‐analysis of school‐based interventions for PTSD and trauma‐related symptoms: what effective elements they have in common?

open access: yesChild and Adolescent Mental Health, EarlyView.
Background Schools provide critical support for students exposed to traumatic experiences, with school‐based trauma interventions demonstrating reductions in posttraumatic stress symptoms. However, heterogeneity in design, implementation, and efficacy of existing interventions makes it challenging to select suitable interventions and to understand ...

Advanced numerical methods for high stiffness problems in reactive transport [PDF]

open access: yes
La simulation du transport réactif en milieu poreux est un enjeu majeur pour la transition énergétique, avec des applications pour la séquestration du CO2, la géothermie et le stockage d'hydrogène.

Affinification: A Fine Approximation of Deformations

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract We introduce affinification, a novel method for accelerating physics‐based animation of elastic solids. During a time‐dependent simulation, our method automatically partitions the space into affine and elastic regions depending on the deformation.

Alternating Minimization Schemes for Computing Rate-Distortion-Perception Functions with $f$-Divergence Perception Constraints [PDF]

open access: yes
We study the computation of the rate-distortion-perception function (RDPF) for discrete memoryless sources subject to a single-letter average distortion constraint and a perception constraint that belongs to the family of $f$-divergences. In this setting,
