A cell evolution method for reliability-based design optimization

Applied Soft Computing, 2014
The reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) presents to be a systematic and powerful approach for process designs under uncertainties. The traditional double-loop methods for solving RBDO problems can be computationally inefficient because the inner reliability analysis loop has to be iteratively performed for each probabilistic constraint.

New Approach for System Reliability-Based Design Optimization

AIAA Journal, 2005
<div class="htmlview paragraph">An efficient approach for Reliability-Based Design Optimization (RBDO) of series systems is presented. A modified formulation of the RBDO problem is employed in which the required reliabilities of the failure modes of a system are design variables.

Reliability‐based design optimization with dependent interval variables

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2012
SUMMARYReliability‐based design optimization (RBDO) ensures design requirements are satisfied at required reliability levels in the presence of uncertainty. The recent RBDO methodologies can accommodate two types of uncertainty – aleatory type, represented by random variables, and epistemic type, represented by interval variables.

Design Potential Concept for Reliability-Based Design Optimization

Volume 2: 26th Design Automation Conference, 2000
Abstract This paper presents a design potential concept for reliability-based design optimization by integrating the probability analysis into the design optimization process. The reliability-based system parameter design is illustrated by the design potential concept in a unified system space, where design potential surfaces are derived

Interactive Reliability-Based Optimal Design

1994
Interactive design/optimization of large, complex structural systems is considered. The objective function is assumed to model the expected costs. The constraints are reliability-based and/or related to deterministic code requirements. Solution of this optimization problem is divided in four main tasks, namely finite element analyses, sensitivity ...

Robust Reliability-based Design Optimization of Suspension Bridges

2004
Design rules for modern cable suspension bridges are developed using reliability theories inside a general risk management based framework. In this context, optimal structural design must be considered under the presence of uncertainties in loading, geometry and material properties, whereas the deterministic approaches of optimization neglect the ...

Approximation methods for reliability‐based design optimization problems

GAMM-Mitteilungen, 2007
AbstractDeterministic optimum designs are obtained without considering of uncertainties related to the problem parameters such as material parameters (yield stress, allowable stresses, moment capacities, etc.), external loadings, manufacturing errors, tolerances, cost functions, which could lead to unreliable designs, therefore several methods have ...
