Reliability and Validity

2019
Interrater agreement is usually used as an aid in determining the reliability of measurements based on human coding (from text or from observations). Reliability is usually seen as a requirement for validity, does the data present what they are proposed to present.

Validity of Reliability

Journal of Nervous & Mental Disease, 2007
We have tested the stability of interrater reliability of psychiatric symptoms over a quarter of century using 2 rating scales. Validity and reliability are central methodological concepts in psychiatric nosology. However, the notion of validity raises considerable difficulties due to the nature of psychiatric disorders. In this chapter, we discuss the two concepts, their interrelation, and their shortcomings.
