Cutaneous Phosphorylated Alpha‐Synuclein in Lewy Body Dementia

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To determine the test performance of cutaneous phosphorylated alpha‐synuclein (P‐SYN) in dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), individuals with reduced Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and healthy controls. Methods This is the first subgroup analysis of the Synuclein‐One study, a prospective, blinded study evaluating P‐SYN detection ...

A Fast-Slow Analysis of the Dynamics of REM Sleep

open access: yes, 2012
Waking and sleep states are regulated by the coordinated activity of a number of neuronal population in the brainstem and hypothalamus whose synaptic interactions compose a sleep-wake regulatory network.

Optical and near-infrared photometric monitoring of the transient X-ray binary A0538-66 with REM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The transient Be/X-ray binary A0538-66 shows peculiar X-ray and optical variability. Despite numerous studies, the intrinsic properties underlying its anomalous behaviour remain poorly understood.

Local Aspects of Avian Non-REM and REM Sleep [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2019
Birds exhibit two types of sleep that are in many respects similar to mammalian rapid eye movement (REM) and non-REM (NREM) sleep. As in mammals, several aspects of avian sleep can occur in a local manner within the brain. Electrophysiological evidence of NREM sleep occurring more deeply in one hemisphere, or only in one hemisphere-the latter being a ...

Micropatterned Biphasic Printed Electrodes for High‐Fidelity on‐Skin Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Micropatterned biphasic printed electrodes achieve unprecedented skin conformity and low impedance by combining liquid‐metal droplets with microstructured 3D lattices. This scalable approach enables high‐fidelity detection of ECG, EMG, and EEG signals, including alpha rhythms from the forehead, with long‐term comfort and stability.

Why Does REM Sleep Occur? A Wake-up Hypothesis

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Neuroscience, 2011
Brain activity differs in the various sleep stages and in conscious wakefulness. Awakening from sleep requires restoration of the complex nerve impulse patterns in neuronal network assemblies necessary to re-create and sustain conscious wakefulness ...

Hibernation in a primate: does sleep occur? [PDF]

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2016
During hibernation, critical physiological processes are downregulated and thermogenically induced arousals are presumably needed periodically to fulfil those physiological demands.
