Understanding the clinical management of co‐occurring sleep‐related bruxism and obstructive sleep apnea in adults: A narrative and critical review

open access: yesJournal of Prosthodontics, Volume 34, Issue S1, Page 46-61, April 2025.
Abstract Sleep‐related bruxism (SRB) is a motor oral behavior characterized by tooth grinding and jaw clenching activity, reported by 8%–12% of the adult general population and 3% of older individuals. The frequency of one of its biomarkers, rhythmic masticatory muscle activity (RMMA), remains elevated across ages.

Gender differences in the relationship between sleep and age in a Brazilian cohort: the Baependi Heart Study

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
Summary Gender and age are well‐established determinants of health and sleep health that influence overall health, which also often varies by gender and age. Sleep architecture is an important component of sleep health. The goal of this analysis was to examine whether associations between age and sleep stages differ by gender in the absence of moderate–

Dampened circadian amplitude of EEG power in women after menopause

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
Summary Postmenopausal women are at high risk of developing sleep–wake disturbances. We previously reported dampened circadian rhythms of melatonin, alertness and sleep in postmenopausal compared with young women. The present study aims to further explore electroencephalography power spectral changes in the sleep of postmenopausal women.

The sleep cycle: a mathematical analysis from a global workspace perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Dretske's technique of invoking necessary conditions from information theory to describe mental process can be used to derive a version of Hobson's AIM treatment of the sleep/wake cycle from a mathematical formulation of Baars' Global Workspace model of ...

The Ecology of Human Sleep (EcoSleep) Cohort Study: Protocol for a longitudinal repeated measurement burst design study to assess the relationship between sleep determinants and outcomes under real‐world conditions across time of year

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 34, Issue 2, April 2025.
Summary The interplay of daily life factors, including mood, physical activity, or light exposure, influences sleep architecture and quality. Laboratory‐based studies often isolate these determinants to establish causality, thereby sacrificing ecological validity.
