A data-driven framework for remaining useful life estimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Remaining useful life (RUL) estimation is one of the most common tasks in the field of prognostics and structural health management. The aim of this research is to estimate the remaining useful life of an unspecified complex system using some data-driven

SCADA Data-Driven Remaining Useful Life Estimation of Wind Turbine Generators

open access: yesEnergies
Generator faults are among the most expensive events in utility-scale wind turbines, and the remaining useful life (RUL) of a generator is strongly influenced by long-term thermal loading on windings and bearings.

Applying the General Path Model to Estimation of Remaining Useful Life [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Prognostics and Health Management, 2011
The ultimate goal of most prognostic systems is accurate prediction of the remaining useful life of individual systems or components based on their use and performance.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Machine performance degradation assessment and remaining useful life prediction using proportional hazard model and support vector machine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Machine performance degradation assessment and remaining useful life (RUL) prediction are of crucial importance in condition-based maintenance to reduce the maintenance cost and improve the reliability.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Remaining Useful Life Estimation of Rotating Machines through Supervised Learning with Non-Linear Approaches

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Bearings are one of the most common causes of failure for rotating electric machines. Intelligent condition-based monitoring (CbM) can be used to predict rolling element bearing fault modes using non-invasive and inexpensive sensing. Strategically placed

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an
