ABSTRACTA magnetic detector is placed at the edge of a ship channel and connected to a shore based transmitting station with a waterproof cable. The detector senses the change created in the earth's magnetic field by the presence of a ship and triggers an RF transmitter, thereby sending a message to a nearby Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) Center.

Remote Heart Failure Monitoring
Current Treatment Options in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2013Heart failure is associated with a very high rate of hospitalization, which has become a major target for quality improvement. A key strategy for reducing hospitalizations is remote heart failure monitoring. Remote monitoring systems that rely on assessment of symptoms, vital signs, and daily weight change have not consistently lowered the rate of ...

Remote Monitoring of Evoked Potentials
Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 1985The clinical value of evoked potential testing is now well established. The general availability of this form of testing is currently limited by cost of the equipment and availability of personnel not only to operate it but also to interpret the results.

Legitimate data in remote monitoring
2009 Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2009An approach for ensuring legitimate data transfers of an individual within a remote healthcare solution. Biometric traits and networking are discussed for clarification of the approach. In this approach, a biometric solution is identified as a fingerprint scanner for use in a personal area network of the patient's home.

Remote monitoring of rangeland production
Agricultural Water Management, 1983Abstract Use of Landsat vegetation indices (combinations of spectral bands) to measure standing crop biomass production in rangelands is addressed. The theoretical basis for vegetation indices is briefly reviewed for ratios, differences and normalizations. Both optical and digital indices are discussed.

Remote sensing is usually associated with observations of the earth from satellites using photography and other forms of imaging to obtain information on features such as land use, crop condition and meteorological phenomena. However, in studies of air pollution, satellite borne instruments have not yet played a significant role and remote sensing ...
