A review of reflectance nomenclature used in remote sensing
Remote Sensing Reviews, 2000Field and laboratory radiometers have long been used to characterize the multiangle reflectance properties of homogeneous surface targets. Within the last few years space‐based multiangle spectroradiometers have been deployed, including the Along‐Track Scanning Radiometer‐2 (ATSR), the Polarization and Directionality of the Earth's Reflectances (POLDER)

Reflectance quantities in optical remote sensing—definitions and case studies
Remote Sensing of Environment, 2006The remote sensing community puts major efforts into calibration and validation of sensors, measurements, and derived products to quantify and reduce uncertainties. Given recent advances in instrument design, radiometric calibration, atmospheric correction, algorithm development, product development, validation, and delivery, the lack of ...

Reflectance characteristics of rocks in geological remote sensing
Journal of the Indian Society of Remote Sensing, 1988Surface and laboratory measured reflectance data of various rock types were analysed for the possible correlation with Landsat MSS response using statistical methods. It is found that band 6(0.7–0.8 μm) in field and satellite and band 7(0.8–1.1) in field and laboratory data have maximum correlation coefficient.

Remote Sensing of Angular Characteristics of Canopy Reflectances
IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 1985The influence of the atmosphere on the remotely sensed angular distribution of canopy reflectance is studied by radiative transfer calculations with both a coupled atmosphere-canopy model and a pure atmosphere model with the canopy replaced by an equivalent bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF).

Reliability of backscattering from remotely sensed reflectance
Optical Society of America Annual Meeting, 1991Monte Carlo simulation is used to evaluate the reliability of backscattering calculated from remotely sensed reflectance following the equations of Zaneveld (1989). The required optical properties include upwelling nadir radiance, downwelling scalar irradiance, and the hydrosol absorption.

Effects of The Inherent Optical Properties On Remotely Sensed Reflectance
2002Abstract : The long-term goals of this project are to determine how the inherent optical properties and their vertical distribution affect remote sensing. This work includes using two-flow and full radiative transfer models to evaluate the conditions under which subsurface optical structure is detectable, and to develop an inversion model to determine ...

Spectral Reflectance Properties of Hydrocarbons: Remote-Sensing Implications
Science, 1989The spectral reflectance properties of bituminous tar sands were examined in the wavelength range from 0.35 to 2.6 micrometers. Unique absorption features due to all the major phases, except quartz, appear in the spectra. The intensities of the absorption features correlate with the abundances of the various phases.

A discrete bidirectional reflectance model in remote sensing
Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer, 2003A numerical scheme is devised to develop a discrete bidirectional reflectance model. A pseudospectral method is utilized with which the discrete solution of the radiative transfer equation is made part of this development. To produce discrete bidirectional reflectance values, a set of algebraic equations is solved.

Determination of ocean reflectance by multispectral remote sensing
Acta Astronautica, 1984Abstract The reflectance of the atmosphere-ground system is measured by a multichannel spectrometer MKS on board the satellite “Interkosmos 21” in 13 narrow spectral channels between 400 and 900 nm. The aim of this experiment is the investigation of ocean reflectance and its dependence on wavelength λ and on suspended material (phytoplankton). To get

Light Reflectance Characteristics and Remote Sensing of Waterlettuce
2003Waterlettuce (Pistia stratiotesL.) is a free-floating exoticaquatic weed that often invades and clogs waterways in thesoutheastern United States. A study was conducted to evaluatethe potential of using remote sensing technology to distinguishinfestations of waterlettuce in Texas waterways.
