Domain‐Specific Oral Hypofunction in Older Adults With Obstructive Sleep Apnoea: A Case–Control Study

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
In this case–control study of 288 adults aged ≥ 50 years, polysomnography‐confirmed obstructive sleep apnoea was independently associated with a domain‐specific pattern of oral hypofunction, particularly poor oral hygiene, oral dryness and reduced tongue pressure. In contrast, occlusal force and chewing function appeared to be predominantly age‐related.
