Abstract Clasp-retained removable partial dentures should not be designed solely for efficiency in mastication. In many instances, a compromise is necessary. This is acceptable as long as it is not a compromise with evil. Too great an efficiency quotient may be almost immediately destructive to supporting teeth and other tissues.

An impression basically is the negative replica of oral tissues. In case of RPDs, these tissues are the remaining teeth, the residual ridge, and the surrounding mucosa. Among these three, the teeth are the easiest to capture. Any elastic impression material can easily mold the shape of the remaining teeth satisfactorily.
