Aprotinin may increase mortality in low and intermediate risk but not in high risk cardiac surgical patients compared to tranexamic acid and ε-aminocaproic acid - a meta-analysis of randomised and observational trials of over 30.000 patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: To compare the effect of aprotinin with the effect of lysine analogues (tranexamic acid and ε-aminocaproic acid) on early mortality in three subgroups of patients: low, intermediate and high risk of cardiac surgery.

Renal Artery Dissection

open access: yesAnnals of Surgery, 1984
Renal artery dissections are stenotic or occlusive lesions most often observed in hypertensive patients with underlying atherosclerosis or fibromuscular disease. Acute dissections may present spontaneously, as a complication of diagnostic or therapeutic angiography or as an agonal event associated with overwhelming systemic illness. Chronic dissections

Robot-assisted kidney transplantation with regional hypothermia using grafts with Multiple Vessels After Extracorporeal Vascular Reconstruction: results from the European Association of Urology Robotic Urology Section Working Group

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Kidney transplantation using grafts with multiple vessels (GMVs) is technically demanding and may be associated with increased risk of complications or suboptimal graft function.

A preliminary study on the classification of pediatric renal artery variations based on the computer-assisted surgical system [PDF]

open access: yes精准医学杂志
Objective To investigate the status and classification of pediatric renal artery variations using the Hisense CAS computer-assisted surgery system. Methods Lower abdominal contrast-enhanced CT images were collected from the children with non-kidney ...

Hospital Readmission After Traumatic Brain Injury Hospitalization in Community‐Dwelling Older Adults

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the risk of hospital readmission after an index hospitalization for TBI in older adults. Methods Using data from the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study, we used propensity score matching of individuals with an index TBI‐related hospitalization to individuals with (1) non‐TBI hospitalizations (primary analysis)

Prognostic Implications of Sleep Architecture for Patients Admitted to the Intensive Care Unit With Status Epilepticus

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Status epilepticus (SE) is associated with significant mortality. Sleep architecture may reflect normal brain function. Impaired sleep architecture is associated with poorer outcomes in numerous conditions. Here we investigate the association of sleep architecture in continuous EEG (cEEG) with survival in SE.

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Changes of Renal Blood Flow Following Various Renal Denervation Procedures in Intact Kidneys of Rabbits Using Colored Microspheres [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We investigated effects of acute renal denervation procedures on renal hemodynamics in intact kidneys of rabbits. Fifty-one Japanese white male rabbits were used. Renal blood flow (RBF) was measured by colored microspheres.

Exploring Patients’ Profiles Associated With the Resolution of Acute Calcium Pyrophosphate Arthritis Treated With Colchicine and Prednisone: Post Hoc Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The objective was to identify factors determining acute arthritis resolution and safety with colchicine and prednisone in acute calcium pyrophosphate (CPP) crystal arthritis. Methods We conducted a post hoc analysis of the COLCHICORT trial, which compared colchicine and prednisone for the treatment of acute CPP crystal arthritis, using a ...

Complete Remission After Percutaneous Renal Artery Angioplasty for Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis due to Takayasu Disease: A Case Report. [PDF]

open access: yesKidney Med
Renal artery stenosis is a common complication of Takayasu disease; however, the presence of nephrotic syndrome is rare. Percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty (PTRA) is performed for renal artery stenosis; however, its efficacy is unclear for renal
