The experience of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) in 101 patients (117 arteries) is reviewed along with the techniques and theoretical mechanisms for artery dilatation. The complication rate is low and PTA should be the initial procedure in the “surgical” treatment of renal artery stenosis.
