A model for red blood cells in simulations of large-scale blood flows [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
Red blood cells (RBCs) are an essential component of blood. A method to include the particulate nature of blood is introduced here with the goal of studying circulation in large-scale realistic vessels. The method uses a combination of the Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) to account for the plasma motion, and a modified Molecular Dynamics scheme for the ...

Inhibition of Aberrant Activated Fibroblast‐Like Synoviocytes in Rheumatoid Arthritis by Leishmania Peptide via the Regulation of Fatty Acid Synthesis Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
LACK156‐173 is internalized into RA‐FLSs via CAPN2‐mediated endocytosis and inhibits the aggressive phenotype of RA‐FLSs by restoring dysregulated fatty acid synthesis metabolism mediated by overexpressed FASN. The findings suggest that targeting the restoration of fatty acid metabolism could potentially alleviate synovial invasion and joint damage in ...

Estimation of the vascular resistance amplifier in the renal vascular bed in conscious hypertensive rabbits: comparison with the total peripheral vasculature

open access: yesHeliyon, 2020
Objectives: The vascular amplifier in hypertension is a result of structural changes in resistance arteries. We estimated the vascular amplifier hypertensive:normotensive (H:N) ratio in the renal bed compared with the total peripheral bed in conscious ...

Renal vascular TRP channels

open access: yesCurrent Research in Physiology, 2021
Members of the transient receptor potential (TRP) channels that are expressed in the kidney have gained prominence in recent years following discoveries of their role in maintaining the integrity of the filtration barrier, regulating tubular reabsorption

Advances in Nano‐Immunomodulatory Systems for the Treatment of Acute Kidney Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Based on the biodegradability and the immunological reactiveness, IMNs can be broadly classified into four categories. The first category includes types of biologically derived materials that cause immunomodulatory action and biodegradability like nanoparticles of cell membranes, extracellular vesicles, and exosomes.

The Acute And Chronic Effects Of Resveratrol On Renal Function And Blood Pressure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We investigated the acute and chronic effects of resveratrol on renal function and blood pressure. We hypothesized that resveratrol would act as a renal vasodilator through a nitric oxide-dependent mechanism. In our acute studies, we found an intravenous

Intestinal Gastrin/CCKBR Axis Protects against Type 2 Diabetes by Reducing Intestinal Glucose Absorption through the PI3K/Akt/eIF4B Signaling Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In intestinal epithelial cells, Gastrin/CCKBR stimulation prevents high glucose‐stimulated SGLT1 (SLC5A1) and GLUT2 (SLCA2) expressions, via the PI3K/AKT/eIF4B signaling pathway, with facilitatory effects on the secretion of incretins, which could be therapeutic targets for clinical treatment in T2D.
