The plural is used advisedly. Each of several microcirculations with specialized structural and functional properties is necessary to the physiologic functioning of the kidney. Newly elucidated aspects of renal vascular anatomy are mapped out and clearly related to the exchange processes that occur at the capillary level in each part of the nephron to ...

AbstractThe renal medullary microcirculation is a distinctive arrangement of blood vessels that serve multiple functions in the renal medulla. This article begins with a description of the unique anatomy of this vascular bed and the role it plays in transport and countercurrent exchange in the medulla.

Renal circulation during hypotension
The American Journal of Surgery, 1973Abstract The partial pressures of canine aortic and renal parenchymal oxygen and carbon dioxide were measured spectrometrically in vivo. Renal parenchymal hypoxia and hypercapnia, disproportionate to aortic controls, were found to occur in systemic hypotension and to persist after a return of normotension.

THERE are few vascular beds with such unique anatomic and physiological characteristics as the renal circulation. Although our knowledge has advanced greatly in the past decade, it seems that we may need a man with the imagination and vision of Harvey to explain the multiplicity of unresolved issues in this area.

Renal function during extracorporeal circulation
Journal of Surgical Research, 1961Summary In clinical studies on patients undergoing repair of congenital cardiac defects, while being supported by extracorporeal circulation at nor-mothermic conditions, effective renal plasma flow and urine production were measured during varying of body perfusion to assess the concurrent changes in renal function.

Renal collateral circulation in renal hypertension
The American Journal of Medicine, 1966Abstract The findings in two patients with renal collateral circulation and renal hypertension suggest that collateral circulation does not prevent or modify renal hypertension.

The following investigation was undertaken in the hope that actual photographic records might be submitted of the renal vessels in the later stages of their distribution and that the evidence produced might definitely eliminate the doubt that exists regarding certain features of their finer circulation.

Pharmacology of the renal circulation
The American Journal of Medicine, 1977The circulatory response of the kidney to drugs is conditioned by a variety of factors, such as basal vascular tone, dietary sodium and structural changes in the renal vasculature which accompany aging and disease. In addition, any drug which affects systemic arterial pressure will activate renal autoregulatory processes, which are superimposed upon ...
