The heterodimeric amino acid transporters (HAT) of the SLC7/SLC3 family: A structure−function relationships and relevance to human pathology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heterodimeric amino acid transporters consist of SLC7 and SLC3 family proteins arranged in a conserved structural organization. They regulate nutrient transport across cell membranes, supporting essential cellular functions. These transporters also contribute to xenobiotic/drug uptake and distribution.

Role of ABCB1 and ABCB4 in renal and biliary excretion of perfluorooctanoic acid in mice

open access: yesEnvironmental Health and Preventive Medicine
Background: Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) is one of the major per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. The role of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters in PFOA toxicokinetics is unknown.

TGF-beta1 immunohistochemistry and promoter methylation in chronic renal failure rats treated with Uremic Clearance Granules.

open access: yesFolia Histochemica et Cytobiologica, 2010
The aim of the study was the explain the mechanism related to therapeutic effects of Uremic Clearance Granules (Niaoduqing Keli in Chinese) on adenine-induced Chronic Renal Failure in rats.

Physicochemical Determinants of Human Renal Clearance

open access: yes, 2016
Kidney plays an important role in the elimination of drugs, especially with low or negligible hepatic clearance. An analysis of the interrelation of physicochemical properties and the human renal clearance for a data set of 391 drugs or compounds tested ...

Going viral − Virus‐targeting nanobodies for research, diagnostics and therapy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The increasing prevalence of viral diseases represents a major threat for global human health. Nanobodies, small binding fragments derived from camelid heavy‐chain antibodies, offer versatile tools for viral research, diagnostics, and antiviral therapy.

Soft motions encoded by the fold and mediated by conserved hinge sites drive V‐ATPase allosteric machinery and autoinhibition

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Vacuolar H+‐ATPase (V‐ATPase) is a multisubunit rotary proton pump that acidifies intracellular compartments. Using elastic network models, we identified conserved hinge residues that govern its large‐scale functional motions. We show that intrinsically encoded ‘soft modes’ drive critical functional transitions, including rotary catalysis and ...

Renal Clearance of Glucosamine in the Rat.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1963
Discussion and summaryThat the clearance of exogenous glucosamine in the rat occurs at the same rate as that of inulin suggests that glucosamine might be a substance which after glomerular filtration does not undergo subsequent tubular reabsorption or secretion.

Assessment of GFR by four methods in adults in Ashanti, Ghana : the need for an eGFR equation for lean African populations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background. Equations for estimating glomerular filtration rate (GFR) have not been validated in Sub-Saharan African populations, and data on GFR are few. Methods.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
