Contrast-associated acute kidney injury : does it really exist, and if so, what to do about it? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
For decades, when contrast agents are administrated, physicians have been concerned because of the risk of inducing acute kidney injury (AKI). Recent literature questions the existence of AKI induced by contrast, but animal studies clearly showed harmful

COMPARATIVE STUDY ON EVOLUTION OF PERIODONTAL PARAMETERS IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE BY TYPE OF NEPHROLOGIC TREATMENT

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 2021
Chronic renal failure is a progressive disease, characterized by the destruction of the functional units of the kidney, the nephrons. In order to prolong life, hemodialysis is the treatment chosen as an artificial means of eliminating nitrogen products ...

Prevalence of abnormalities in electrocardiogram conduction in dialysis patients: a comparative study

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Nephrology, 2020
Background: The electrocardiogram (ECG) can aid in identification of chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients at high risk for cardiovascular diseases. Cohort studies describe ECG abnormalities in patients on hemodialysis (HD), but we did not find data ...

Chronic Renal Insufficiency [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Internal Medicine, 1998
Chronic renal insufficiency ultimately culminating in end-stage renal disease requiring dialysis or transplantation is a major health problem in the United States. The first task confronting the physician caring for a patient with renal disease is to decide whether the renal insufficiency is acute or chronic.

Persistent High Serum Bicarbonate and the Risk of Heart Failure in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD): A Report From the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) Study

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association : Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2015
Background Serum bicarbonate varies over time in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, and this variability may portend poor cardiovascular outcomes. The aim of this study was to conduct a time‐updated longitudinal analysis to evaluate the association ...

YAP1::TFE3 mediates endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal plasticity in epithelioid hemangioendothelioma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The YAP1::TFE3 fusion protein drives endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndMT) plasticity, resulting in the loss of endothelial characteristics and gain of mesenchymal‐like properties, including resistance to anoikis, increased migratory capacity, and loss of contact growth inhibition in endothelial cells.

Long-term prevention of renal insufficiency, excess matrix gene expression, and glomerular mesangial matrix expansion by treatment with monoclonal antitransforming growth factor-ß antibody in \u3ci\u3edb/db\u3c/i\u3e diabetic mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Emerging evidence suggests that transforming growth factor-(TGF-β) is an important mediator of diabetic nephropathy. We showed previously that short-term treatment with a neutralizing monoclonal anti-TGF-antibody (αT) in streptozotocin-diabetic mice ...

Evaluation of Canine Pancreas-Specific Lipase Activity, Lipase Activity, and Trypsin-Like Immunoreactivity in an Experimental Model of Acute Kidney Injury in Dogs. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BackgroundDiagnosis of pancreatitis in dogs is complicated by extrapancreatic disorders that can alter the results of laboratory tests. Extrapancreatic disorders can also affect the diagnosis of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI).

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.
