RefineCatDiff: Toward High‐Quality Medical Image Segmentation via a Categorical Diffusion Refinement Framework

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study proposes RefineCatDiff, a refinement framework for high‐quality medical image segmentation. By developing a categorical distribution‐based discrete diffusion process for refinement, the framework aligns well with the characteristics of image segmentation tasks. Experimental results on multiple datasets across different modalities demonstrate

A Robotic Urinary Bladder Enabling Volume Monitoring and Assisted Micturition

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
An implantable robotic bladder is presented that can store urine in an origami‐designed enclosure. An inductance sensing principle can monitor and transfer the urine volume in real‐time. It can actively expand based on the amount of urine collected from kidneys and apply on‐demand mechanical compression to assist urination.

Ultra‐Efficient Kidney Stone Fragment Removal via Spinner‐Induced Synergistic Circulation and Spiral Flow

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Leveraging spinning‐induced localized suction, the spinner device enables ultra‐efficient removal of kidney stone fragments, capturing a larger quantity of fragments from distances exceeding 20 mm. The spinner significantly improves the efficiency and effectiveness of stone fragment removal by reducing operative time, increasing stone‐free rates, and ...

Alpha adrenergic receptors in renal pelvis and calyces: can rat models be used?

open access: yesInternational Brazilian Journal of Urology, 2014
We aimed, in this study, to determine the distribution of α-1 AR subtypes in rat and human pelvis and calyces, and to evaluate, by comparing these two species, the possibility of rats to be used as models for humans.

Facts and Misfacts on D‐Dimer Testing. Consensus Guidance From the Italian Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis (SISET)

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT D‐dimer defines degradation products derived from the proteolysis mediated by plasmin on cross‐linked fibrin. The evidence‐based use of D‐dimer in some conditions has been consolidated. Currently, however, there is an entrenched prescription of D‐dimer testing to screen otherwise healthy subjects that may induce prescribing physicians to start

Misplaced drainage tube inserted in the vein in a percutaneous nephrostomy: a case series

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research, 2022
Percutaneous nephrostomy is a critical procedure for establishing surgical pathways from the skin to the renal collecting system. The drainage tube involved in the procedure rarely deviates into the renal vein.

Intestinal Atresia in PPP1R12A‐Related Urogenital and Brain Malformation Syndrome

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT PPP1R12A‐related urogenital and brain malformation syndrome (UBMS) is a newly described disorder characterized by congenital anomalies primarily involving the urogenital system and the brain. We describe a preterm female neonate with multiple congenital anomalies, including type IIIb jejunal atresia, incomplete intestinal rotation, imperforate
