The manifestations, clinical course and treatment of 14 patients with non-malignant renal vein thrombosis are described. Most patients (10 of 14) had generalized vague illness and nephrotic syndrome but 4 were initially seen with acute symptoms of flank pain, hematuria or hypertension.

AbstractThe 11th case of primary leiomyosarcoma of the renal vein is reported. Unique features of this case included concomitant resection of an isolated hepatic metastasis, intraoperative radiation therapy, and the use of electron microscopy and immunohistochemical stains in confirming the diagnosis.

Diagnosis of renal vein thrombosis, a disease of subtle or dramatic onset, depends largely on clinical suspicion confirmed by renal venography. The principles of management are changing as diagnostic advances resolve the "chicken-or-egg" quandary over the causal relationship between renal vein thrombosis and the nephrotic syndrome.

Leiomyosarcoma of the renal vein
International Journal of Clinical Oncology, 2010A 43-year-old woman was referred to our clinic for evaluation of a left retroperitoneal mass. She presented to our internal medicine department complaining of back pain. Computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a left retroperitoneal mass 55 mm in size in the hilum of the left kidney.

Leiomyosarcoma of the renal vein
Journal of Surgical Oncology, 1996The preoperative diagnosis for primary leiomyosarcoma of the renal vein, an extremely rare tumor, is difficult. The tumor predominantly occurs in women and on the left side. Its natural history is toward distant metastases and a poor 5-year survival rate. Nephrectomy and en-bloc surgical resection remain the mainstay of therapy.

AbstractA routine cadaveric dissection in an adult male revealed the emergence of two renal veins at the hilum of the right kidney that presented two separate openings in the inferior vena cava (IVC), one above the other. At the hilum the segmental branches of the right renal artery were sandwiched between the two veins.

The different etiologies of renal occlusion are reviewed. A special category, division of the left renal vein in abdominal aortic surgery, is also discussed in the review. The various diagnostic modalities used in cases of renal vein occlusion include excretory urography, ultrasound, nuclear scan, angiography, venography, computerized tomography and ...
