Insights into genetic determinants of volatile fatty acid catabolism in Cupriavidus necator H16
The soil bacterium Cupriavidus necator H16 is a promising host for upgrading waste-derived volatile fatty acids (VFAs) into renewable biochemicals. While bacterial VFA metabolic pathways are well understood, the C. necator genome encodes multiple enzymes

Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

The reaction mechanism of the Ideonella sakaiensis PETase enzyme
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), the most abundantly produced polyester plastic, can be depolymerized by the Ideonella sakaiensis PETase enzyme. Based on multiple PETase crystal structures, the reaction has been proposed to proceed via a two-step serine

This study develops sustainable MgO–C refractories using recycled materials and eco‐friendly fructose–tannin binders. The enhanced performance of citric acid as a cross‐linker and functional additives on mechanical and thermomechanical properties was examined. Characterization included strength tests, immersion trials, and microstructural and inclusion

On the optimal timing of switching from non-renewable to renewable resources: dirty vs clean energy sources and the relative efficiency of generators [PDF]
We develop a model on the optimal timing of switching from non-renewable to renewable energy sources with endogenous extraction choices under emission taxes and abatement costs.

Arctic ecosystem restoration with native tundra bryophytes
Bryophytes are ecologically essential to northern ecosystem restoration after disturbance. In this study, native bryophytes were used to revegetate two Arctic restoration sites. Different propagation types (small, medium, large fragments) and substrates (

The separation of Helium gas from natural gas is challenging but highly important. MIL‐116(Ga), a “non‐porous” metal–organic framework is used as a molecular sieve to separate He from CH4. Druse‐like MIL‐116(Ga) particles are integrated into polysulfone mixed matrix membranes.
