Regularization, renormalization, and renormalization groups
This paper confronts renormalization used in quantum field theory and that used in critical phenomena studies in statistical mechanics or dynamical systems theory. Regularization that cures spurious divergences is distinguished from renormalization transformations allowing to compute actual physical divergences.

ArchPy and MODFLOW: Toward a General Integration of Heterogeneity into Groundwater Models
Abstract Groundwater models are important and useful tools for answering scientific and technical questions about the quantity and quality of groundwater, as well as for making critical management decisions. However, the heterogeneity of subsurface properties, such as hydraulic conductivity, is known to play a central role in groundwater flow and ...

Liquidus temperature of phosphate crystalline phases in borosilicate waste glasses
Abstract The formation of phosphate crystals in high‐level waste (HLW) glass may hinder the steady operation of the melter and deteriorate the chemical durability of the final waste form. Exploring the liquidus temperature (TL) of phosphate crystals is important to estimate the solubility limit of phosphorus in borosilicate waste glass across complex ...

A Conditional Tail Expectation Type Risk Measure for Time Series
ABSTRACT We consider the estimation of the conditional expectation 𝔼(Xh|X0>UX(1/p)), provided 𝔼|X0|<∞, at extreme levels, where (Xt)t∈ℤ$$ {\left({X}_t\right)}_{t\in \mathbb{Z}} $$ is a strictly stationary time series, UX$$ {U}_X $$ its tail quantile function, h$$ h $$ is a positive integer and p∈(0,1)$$ p\in \left(0,1\right) $$ is such that p→0$$ p\to ...

Sleeping Beauty and the demands of non‐ideal rationality
Abstract If an agent can't live up to the demands of ideal rationality, fallback norms come into play that take into account the agent's limitations. A familiar human limitation is our tendency to lose information. How should we compensate for this tendency?
