Regularization and Renormalization of the Vacuum Energy

2009
AbstractThis chapter uses the method of heat kernel expansion together with cutoff regularization to separate the divergent part of the vacuum energy. After the vacuum energy has been regularized, the procedure of renormalization is considered. The divergent contributions have a structure which allows their removal by a redefinition of the parameters ...

Regularization and renormalization

Il Nuovo Cimento, 1960
The replacement of ordinary with finite-part integrals, which generalize the definition originally given by J. Hadamard, was shown previously to yield ipso fucto correctly renormalized field equations independently of perturbative techniques, provided due care is taken of the symmetry properties of the theory and some quantitative conditions (closely ...

Regularization-invariant renormalization

Lettere Al Nuovo Cimento Series 2, 1984
We argue that it is interesting to keep regularization and renormalization apart. General renormalization conditions provide a regularization invariant definition of a renormalization scheme. We show how to rewrite’t Hooft renormalization MS scheme in such a way that it conforms to this last rule and we calculate the renormalization group functions ...

Intrinsic Loop Regularization and Renormalization in QED

Communications in Theoretical Physics, 1995
We show how to regularize and renormalize the QED at the one-loop order by means of the intrinsic loop regularization method proposed by the authors. All the results are the same as those derived by means of other regularization methods.

Regularization and renormalization of four-fermion theories

Physical Review D, 1980
We regularize local four-fermion interactions in four dimensions by considering them as the limit of nonlocal, nonpolynomial, fermion interactions. Terms that vanish formally in this limit contribute, however, to the renormalization of induced bosonic excitations.
