Homologous recombination (HR) in Schizosaccharomyces pombe is essential when mating‐type switching–induced double‐strand breaks (DSBs) form at the mat1 locus. In h90 and h− strains, efficient mat1 DSB formation renders HR indispensable unless suppressors block these breaks.

Common pathways and outliers in glucose catabolism across Trypanosomatidae
Trypanosomatid parasites, including Trypanosoma sp., Leishmania sp., Phytomonas sp., and Vickermania sp., share a common motif: a metabolism built around the glycosome, a unique peroxisome‐derived organelle housing the first steps of glycolysis. Yet, these organisms have evolved remarkably diverse strategies to catabolize glucose, excreting distinct ...

External structures at the nest‐site predict asymmetric architecture of nests in a mud‐building bird
In the animal kingdom, nests are essential structures and textbook examples of extended phenotypes. However, the relationship between builders, nest traits and the nest‐site remains poorly understood. We indirectly examine whether structures in the nest‐site influence nest‐building behaviour, specifically focusing on their effect on nest architecture ...

Timing pattern of Common Cuckoo parasitism and its relation to host nest attendance
Classical works show the adaptive importance of precise timing of egg‐laying in brood parasitic Common Cuckoos Cuculus canorus to ensure sufficient incubation time and successful hatching. Laying in the late afternoon has been suggested to increase the chance of secretive parasitism and therefore escape the aggressive mobbing by hosts, yet this ...
