Food Subsidies Reduce Livestock Depredations by a Recovering Carnivore

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
Diversionary feeding—providing food caches to divert predators away from preying on livestock—is a strategy to reduce depredations by Mexican gray wolves but has not been evaluated for its effectiveness. We used data from the Mexican wolf recovery program from 2014‐2021 to evaluate whether diversionary feeding reduced livestock depredations by wolf ...

Effect of PGF2 alpha on Oestrus and Fertility rate in repeat breeder cows treated with Norgestomet-Oestradiol [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary World, 2010
A total of 48 repeat breeder cows were equally divided in to two treatment groups as NOR and NOR-PG and were treated with norgestomet ear implants on day 10 following natural oestrus and a control group.

Arthropod niche differentiation linked to grazing‐induced sward islets in intensively managed agricultural pasture

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
In a given number of samples, grassland sward islets contain more species of arthropods than the surrounding sward. When corrected for abundance, there is no difference in species richness, suggesting that the effect of islets might purely be to concentrate arthropods. The community structure differences indicated by non‐metric multidimensional scaling

Stayability in the Era of Early‐Challenged Females: Genetic Parameters and Correlations With Economically Relevant Traits

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to estimate the variance components, heritabilities and genetic correlations between four new different categories of stayability (STAY48‐2, STAY48‐3, STAY54‐2, STAY54‐3) with weight at 240 days of age (W240), weight at 450 days of age (W450), scrotal circumference at 365 days of age (SC365), age at puberty in males (APM ...

Present Status of the Repeat-Breeder Cow Problem

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1961
Summary A repeat-breeder is defined as a clinically normal cow which, other factors being optimal, shows a reduced probability of conception. Both fertilization failure and embryonic loss are major causes of repeat-breeding. Much of the embryonic loss occurs between Days 16 and 25 after breeding.

STUDIES ON SOME BIOCHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS OF OVARIAN FOLLICULAR FLUID AND PERIPHERAL BLOOD IN BUFFALOES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This project was designed to study some biochemical constituents of ovarian follicular fluid (FF) and peripheral blood in buffaloes. For this purpose, ovaries were collected from adult buffaloes immediately after slaughter, FF was aspirated and stored at

Application of Genomic Random Regression Models for Genetic Parameter Estimations of Female Fertility Traits in Different Parities in German Holsteins

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to infer genetic (co) variance components and to estimate parity‐specific breeding values for the female fertility traits non‐return rate after 56 days, the interval from calving to first service and days open by applying random regression models on a time‐dependent parity scale. In this regard, we considered a

Therapy of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) Hormone in Dairy Cattles that Have Repeat Breeder on Pregnancy Rate in Tulungagung, East Java, Indonesia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
This study aimed to prove that giving hCG injection at the time of artificial insemination and five days after artificial insemination in dairy cows with repeat breeder can cause pregnancy. This study employed 30 dairy cows with repeat breeder.

Genetic Parameter Estimation for Plasma Biomarkers Associated With Energy Reserves During Critical Physiological Stages in Sheep

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The ability of ruminants to mobilise and restore body reserves (BR) over time, referred to as BR dynamics, is currently considered an interesting biological component to be included in breeding programs targeting enhanced BR resilience. However, genetic studies of proxies for BR levels and BRD remain scarce, particularly in small ruminants ...
