Evaluating the rutting resistance of asphalt mixtures using a simplified triaxial repeated load test
Construction and Building Materials, 2016Abstract A Simplified Triaxial Repeated Load Test (STRT) is reported to evaluate the rutting resistance of asphalt mixtures under field conditions. The laboratory tests and field measurements are conducted to verify the feasibility of the newly developed test method to characterize the permanent deformation of asphalt mixtures. The sensitivity of D1,

AbstractUnbound granular materials (UGM) are extensively used as basecourse materials around the world as they are capable of bearing relatively high traffic loads and are an economical option in comparison to bound materials. The unbound materials performance as basecourse determines the life-cycle costs of a pavement. The extent to which the repeated

Transportation Geotechnics, 2020
Abstract More effective and sustainable use of natural resources besides the mitigation of environmental impacts induced by their extraction could be achieved by reusing construction and demolition (C&D) materials. C&D materials are increasingly being used in pavement bases/subbases as a reliable alternative to virgin quarry materials.

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering, 2021
The creation of the new “Ferry-Free Coastal Highway Route E39” in southwest Norway entails the production of a remarkable quantity of crushed rocks. These resources could be beneficially employed as aggregates in the unbound courses of the highway itself or other road pavements present nearby.

Repeated load triaxial testing of a silty clay
Géotechnique, 1975Repeated load triaxial tests have been carried out on samples of Keuper marl reconstituted from a slurry. The stress history of each sample was controlled and overconsolidation ratios between 2 and 20 were used. The repeated load tests were carried out undrained and involved the application of cyclic deviator stresses at a frequency of 10 Hz and the ...

Railway Subgrade Characterization Through Repeated Loading Triaxial Testing
2021Currently, the improvement of means of transportation is a great challenge. Brazil has a large ore production, which will continue in the next decades, and seeks to reduce the transportation times between production and export centers, as well as reduce the emission of contaminants to the environment.

Repeated Load Triaxial Tests on a Dolomite Ballast
Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1978Triaxial repeated load saturated drained compression and extension tests at low cell pressures on a fine mineral grained tough dolomite railroad ballast are reported. Both plastic strains and ballast breakdown were found to be related to the stress difference factor cycled.

Repeated Load Triaxial Testing of Frozen and Thawed Soils
Geotechnical Testing Journal, 1985Abstract This paper describes the equipment and methodology used to determine the resilient properties of granular soils that exhibit thaw-weakening behavior. Such soils suffer a significant loss in stiffness as the result of freezing and thawing and subsequently experience an increase in stiffness during a recovery phase.

Axial Deformation Measurement in Repeated Load Triaxial Testing
Geotechnical Testing Journal, 1990Abstract This paper describes a method of axial deformation measurement for use in repeated load triaxial testing of pavement materials. An internal deformation measurement system is necessary because of the low strain regime involved, but normal transducers can only be used in an inert cell fluid.
