Development of an animal repellent - selection, efficacy and presentation

open access: yes, 2006
Under some circumstances it may be desirable to repel herbivorous pests (e. g. goats and wallabies) from plants (e. g. horticultural or forestry seedlings) rather than to kill them.

Phytochemical Screening and Mosquito Repellent Activity of the Stem Bark Extracts of Euphorbia Balsamifera (Ait) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The phytochemical screening of extracts from Euphorbia balsamifera was carried out, and the results revealed that the stem bark contains alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, saponins, glycosides, terpenoids and sterols. The ethanol extract of the stem bark of

Multilayer Biobased Poly(ethylene furanoate)/Graphene Oxide Nanofibrous Membranes With Directional Water Transport for Efficient Microplastics Filtration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A self‐assembled multilayer biobased PEF/GO nanofibrous membrane was developed by electrospinning for efficient PLA microplastics (MPs) filtration. The membrane combines superhydrophilicity, directional water transport, mechanical robustness, and a synergistic size‐exclusion interception and electrostatic repulsion MPs separation mechanism, enabling ...

Mosquito repellent activity of the leaf extracts of Lawsonia inermis (l) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The ethanolic extract of the leaves of Lawsonia inermis (commonly known as lalle in Hausa) was sequentially extracted with petroleum ether,  chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol.

Microfluidic Droplet Plate Preserving Single Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell‐Derived Cardiomyocytes Morphology and Function

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We introduce a novel method combining microfluidics, optogenetics, and human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology to encapsulate single iPSC‐derived cardiomyocytes (iPSC‐CMs) in an optimal environment for functional characterization. This method enables direct genotype‐phenotype correlation for genetic studies and high‐throughput screening ...

Moisture‐Adaptive Triboelectric Materials and Platforms: Design Strategies, Performance Enhancement, and Applications in Energy Harvesting and Wearable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review summarizes moisture‐adaptive strategies that enable triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) to operate across diverse moisture conditions. It examines moisture‐management methods, including exclusion, directional transport, removal, and utilization, with charge‐regulation approaches based on interfacial, dielectric, and structural engineering.

Freeform Light Routing in Nearly‐Hyperuniform Slabs: Toward a General‐Purpose Design Platform for Integrated Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Nearly hyperuniform disordered photonic slabs guide light along prescribed freeform pathways without relying on lattice symmetry. A pathway‐first design embeds curved channels within a photonic bandgap hyperuniform network, maintaining high transmission through freeform bends.

Socioeconomic development as an intervention against malaria: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

open access: yes, 2013
BACKGROUND: Future progress in tackling malaria mortality will probably be hampered by the development of resistance to drugs and insecticides and by the contraction of aid budgets.

Controlling Polystyrene Particle Distribution in Colloidal Lithography For Correlated‐Disorder Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Colloidal lithography is a low‐cost, simple and scalable technique to fabricate correlated‐disorder nanostructures for light‐trapping in solar cells. This work investigates the control of polystyrene particle distribution in colloidal lithography, highlighting the importance of particle surface functionalization as well as the ability to tune the ...
