European starling feeding activity on repellent treated crops and pellets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The varied diet of European starlings (Sturnus vulgaris L.) can present challenges when working with starlings in experimental testing and holding situations and should be taken into account when testing repellents applied to food.

Multiferroic‐Centric Materials and Systems Engineering for Battery Applications: An Insight Into Mechanisms, Strategies, and Characterizations

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multiferroic order parameters – polarization, magnetization, and ferroelastic strain – are positioned as dynamic design variables for batteries. Their mechanistic roles, practical tuning through fabrication and external fields, and ferroic‐resolved characterization routes are unified into a closed‐loop framework, revealing how coupled ferroic responses

Absorption of Broadband Low‐Frequency Sound Beyond the Thermodynamics Limit: An Acoustic Resonator With Magnetic Bearing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a magnetic‐bearing acoustic resonator that overcomes the thermodynamics limit of sound absorption. By introducing tunable negative stiffness, it achieves broadband low‐frequency absorption within a compact cavity, far exceeding the performance achievable by classic mass‐tuned designs.

Hamaker Constants of van der Waals Materials under Clean‐Interface Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Clean‐interface adhesion in representative van der Waals materials is quantified by Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) with in situ cleaning and calibrated probes. Benchmark Hamaker constants for graphene, MoS2, and SiO2 are established, while humidity is shown to reversibly amplify adhesion, explaining much of the scatter in ...

EVALUATION OF REPELLENT AND LARVICIDAL ACTIVITY OF OCIMUM BASILICUM L. AND CYMBOPOGON CITRATUS DC. AGAINST CULEX QUINQUEFASCIATUS

open access: yes, 2005
: Ocimum basilicum and Cymbopogon citratus water extracts were investigated for their larvicidal activity against Culex quinquefasciatus mosquito larvae (L3). Ocimum basilicum extract gave 50% mortality within the concentration 1000 -10000 ppm, while the

A Phosphorylation‐Induced Micellization Switch in the Low‐Complexity Domain of TDP‐43

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phosphorylation of TAR DNA‐binding protein's 43 kDa (TDP‐43) low‐complexity domain by casein kinase 1 delta (CK1δ) acts as a molecular switch, redirecting its self‐assembly from macroscopic phase separation toward finite‐sized, spherical block‐copolymer micelles of ∼30 nm.

Dynamic Interfacial pH Stabilization and (002) Oriented Deposition Enabled by Histidine‐Induced Solid Electrolyte Interphase for Highly Reversible Zn Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The histidine‐induced ultrathin SEI (Zn(OH)2‐HIS) delivers exceptional anode stability by stabilizing the interfacial pH via a synergistic mechanism of chemical buffering and physical blocking, while inducing dendrite‐free oriented (002) deposition.
