Experimental tests for macroscopic phase coherence in magnetic-quasiparticle condensates of insulating spin systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
For most kinds of already known Bose-Einstein condensates experimental evidence for the existence of a macroscopic coherent quantum state has been provided, e.g., from the observation of interference phenomena, the formation vortices, the detection of ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Observations of radio pulses from CU Virginis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The magnetic chemically peculiar star CU Virginis is a unique astrophysical laboratory for stellar magnetospheres and coherent emission processes. It is the only known main sequence star to emit a radio pulse every rotation period.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

The morphosyntax of reported speech and reported thought: A preliminary survey

open access: yesThe Grammar of Thinking: From Reported Speech to Reported Thought in the Languages of the World, 2023
This study addresses the relationship between the reporting of speech and the reporting of thought based on a set of annotated data from several typologically diverse languages. The context-based approach we adopt allows us to explore the relationship between reported speech and reported thought without relying on specific lexical or constructional ...

Constraining the Quasar Contribution to the Reionisation of Cosmic Hydrogen [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Absorption spectra of high redshift quasars suggest that the reionisation of cosmic hydrogen was complete near z~6. The dominant sources of ionising photons responsible for this reionisation are generally thought to be stars and quasars. In this paper we

Thoughts underlying “pneumonia” resulting from eating: A case report

open access: yesRespiratory Medicine Case Reports, 2023
As a rare zoonotic helminth disease, paragonimiasis is easy to be misdiagnosed. Adequate attention to the medical history of the patient and early detection of serological antibodies can improve the diagnosis rate. Praziquantel and trichlorobendazole are commonly used for treatment, and the prognosis is good.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Biliary Atresia Associated with Jejunal Atresia and a Review of the Literature in Japan

open access: yesAsian Journal of Surgery, 2005
An unusual case of biliary atresia with jejunal atresia is herein described. Only 12 cases demonstrating biliary atresia associated with a jejunal atresia have been previously reported in Japan.

Non-detection in a Fermi/LAT observation of AXP 4U 0142+61: magnetars?

open access: yes, 2010
Significant research in compact stars is currently focused on two kinds of enigmatic sources: anomalous X-ray pulsars (AXPs) and soft gamma-ray repeaters (SGRs). Although AXPs and SGRs are popularly thought to be magnetars, other models (e.g.
