Multiparameter quantitative analyses of diagnostic cells in brain tissues from tuberous sclerosis complex

open access: yesCytometry Part B: Clinical Cytometry, Volume 108, Issue 1, Page 35-54, January 2025.
Abstract The advent of high‐dimensional imaging offers new opportunities to molecularly characterize diagnostic cells in disorders that have previously relied on histopathological definitions. One example case is found in tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), a developmental disorder characterized by systemic growth of benign tumors.

Downstream effects of hydropower production on aquatic macroinvertebrate assemblages in two rivers in Costa Rica

Improving End‐of‐Life Care for COPD Patients: Design and Development of an Intelligent Clinical Decision Support System to Predict One‐Year Mortality After Acute Exacerbations

open access: yesInternational Journal of Intelligent Systems, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a complex and heterogeneous disease, which presents a significant challenge in identifying patients at high risk of short‐ and medium‐term mortality. Such complexity poses challenges to clinical decision‐making and the effective planning of end‐of‐life care in these patients.

Pathogenic MTOR somatic variant causing focal cortical dysplasia drives hyperexcitability via overactivation of neuronal GluN2C N‐methyl‐D‐aspartate receptors

open access: yesEpilepsia, Volume 65, Issue 7, Page 2111-2126, July 2024.
Abstract Objective Genetic variations in proteins of the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway cause a spectrum of neurodevelopmental disorders often associated with brain malformations and with intractable epilepsy. The mTORopathies are characterized by hyperactive mTOR pathway and comprise tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) and focal cortical ...

Inundation dynamics in seasonally dry floodplain forests in southeastern Brazil

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 38, Issue 6, June 2024.
We investigated the variation in water level dynamics for geomorphologically different eco‐units at six floodplain forest sites in southeastern Brazil. The terraces were flooded for ~40 days per year; the levees in the Rio Grande basin for ~4 days per year and levees in the São Francisco basin for ~46 days per year.
