Contrastive Representations for Temporal Reasoning

arXiv.org
In classical AI, perception relies on learning state-based representations, while planning, which can be thought of as temporal reasoning over action sequences, is typically achieved through search. We study whether such reasoning can instead emerge from

Cortical Representations of Temporal Structure in Sound

Journal of Neurophysiology, 2005
Pitch and spatial width are two sound attributes that can be coded by temporal acoustic structure. In this study, periodicity pitch was created by temporal iteration in a regular-interval noise, whereas spatial width was determined by the degree of interaural correlation.

Representation of Action in Occipito-temporal Cortex

Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, 2011
Abstract A fundamental question for social cognitive neuroscience is how and where in the brain the identities and actions of others are represented. Here we present a replication and extension of a study by Kable and Chatterjee [Kable, J. W., & Chatterjee, A.

Quantitative representation of nonrepetitive temporal behavior

The Physics of Fluids, 1980
Analytical representations suitable to analyze the nonrepetitive pulse-like temporal behavior of physical quantities are derived. The representation utilizes solutions of a linear model equation in which the temporal variation is subject to time-dependent driving and dissipative forces.

Neural Representation of Temporal Patterns

1995
Papers from the April 1993 workshop present findings on questions related to temporal pattern representation and discuss possible future strategies for studying temporal pattern analysis, detailing the many approaches to the representation of time-varying information in the nervous system ...

On the representation of temporal knowledge

2011
The growing interest in an adequate modelling of time in Artificial Intelligence has given rise to the research discipline of Temporal Reasoning (TR). Due to different views, different approaches towards TR such as PL1, modal logics or Allen's intervall logic have been investigated.

On the Representation of Temporal Dynamics

2003
Research in temporal database management has suggested that the Entity-Relationship model must be extended to compensate for its lack of constructs for representing the world’s dynamic nature. This claimed deficiency arises from the mistaken idea that Entity-Relationship diagrams represent only a snapshot of reality. Practitioners have long used Entity-

Representation and Recognition of Temporal Patterns

Connection Science, 1990
How can a nervous system represent for itself the temporal relations of patterns that it knows? In order to label auditory patterns, the nervous system must store early portions in order to identify the whole. Both linguists and engineer-scientists have a similar need to record spoken words.

Representation & Querying of Temporal Conflict

2002
In this paper we are concerned with the problem of designing of a conceptual framework for the representation needs of conflicting but still certain data, in multi-source temporal environments. We put forward a proposal based on the assumption that conflict and uncertainty are dual properties.
