A new endemic pearl cichlid of the ‘Geophagus’ brasiliensis (Cichliformes: Cichlidae) species group from the Piranga River, upper Doce River basin, southeastern Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract A new species of pearl cichlid of the ‘Geophagus’ brasiliensis species group, endemic to the Piranga River, a major tributary of the upper Doce River basin in the state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil, is herein described. The new species is delimited using an integrative approach, with molecular‐based species delimitation methods coupled

Reduced fecundity associated with Wolbachia infection in a Neotropical drosophilid Redução da fecundidade associada à infecção por Wolbachia em um drosofilídeo Neotropical

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 3, Page 475-488, June 2026.
Using multiple infected and uninfected Drosophila sturtevanti lines, we investigated (i) the impact of Wolbachia on fecundity and (ii) its effects relative to antibiotic treatment. Based on over 1680 dissected ovaries, fecundity was similar between infected and uninfected flies.

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 3, Page 558-569, June 2026.
Agricultural cover was positively associated with fluctuating asymmetry in Trypoxylon opacum, suggesting a possible increase in developmental instability in intensively managed landscapes. Wing size was positively related to forest cover and negatively related to agricultural cover, indicating that forested landscapes may promote larger body size ...

Predictive factors for sperm retrieval and sperm injection outcomes in obstructive azoospermia: do etiology, retrieval techniques and gamete source play a role?

open access: yesClinics
Obstructive azoospermia is a relatively common male infertility condition. The main etiologies of obstructive azoospermia include congenital, surgical-derived, traumatic and post-infectious cases. Although seminal tract reconstruction is a cost-effective

Green tea infusion improves cyclophosphamide-induced damage on male mice reproductive system

open access: yesToxicology Reports, 2015
Green tea presents catechins as its major components and it has a potential antioxidant activity. Cyclophosmamide (CP) is an antineoplastic and immunosuppressive agent, known to reduce fertility. In the present study, we evaluated the effect of green tea

Climate‐induced shifts in long‐term tropical tree reproductive phenology: Insights from species dependent on and independent of biotic pollination

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 5, Page 1286-1298, May 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The dependence on biotic pollination may constrain plant phenological responses because flowering time ultimately defines reproductive success. We proposed a local‐scale study combining long‐term phenology and experimental data to evaluate how a key functional trait—the

Comparison of extenders and storage temperature in chilling canine semen

open access: yesCiência Animal Brasileira, 2020
The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of a commercial milk-based extender compared with a self-made egg yolk extender in the quality of canine semen, stored with two different temperatures (5°C or 15°C) for short-term cooling.
