Epigenetic Tracking: a Model for Multicellular Biology [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
Epigenetic Tracking is a mathematical model of biological cells, originally conceived to study embryonic development. Computer simulations proved the capacity of the model to generate complex 3-dimensional cellular structures, and the potential to reproduce the complexity typical of living beings.

On the reproducibility of discrete-event simulation studies in health research: an empirical study using open models [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Reproducibility of computational research is critical for ensuring transparency, reliability and reusability. Challenges with computational reproducibility have been documented in several fields, but healthcare discrete-event simulation (DES) models have not been thoroughly examined in this context. This study assessed the computational reproducibility

A non extensive approach for DNA breaking by ionizing radiation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2002
Tsallis entropy and a maximum entropy principle allows to reproduce experimental data of DNA double strand breaking by electron and neutron radiation. Analytic results for the probability of finding a DNA segment of length l are obtained reproducing quite well the fragment distribution function experimentally obtained.

Doing Things Twice (Or Differently): Strategies to Identify Studies for Targeted Validation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
The "reproducibility crisis" has been a highly visible source of scientific controversy and dispute. Here, I propose and review several avenues for identifying and prioritizing research studies for the purpose of targeted validation. Of the various proposals discussed, I identify scientific data science as being a strategy that merits greater attention
