Pollen limitation and reproductive assurance in Antillean Gesnerieae: a specialists vs. generalist comparison

Ecology, 2010
Pollen limitation of female fecundity is widespread among angiosperms, a signal that pollinators frequently fail to transfer pollen to fertilize all ovules. Recent surveys have suggested that pollen limitation is associated with floral specialization.

Reproductive assurance and the evolutionary ecology of self‐pollination in Clarkia xantiana (Onagraceae)

American Journal of Botany, 2001
The reproductive assurance hypothesis posits that selection favors self‐pollination in flowering plants where mates and/or pollinators are scarce. A corollary is that self‐pollinating populations are expected to be superior colonizers of mate‐ and pollinator‐scarce environments.

Context-dependent autonomous self-fertilization yields reproductive assurance and mixed mating

Nature, 2004
The evolution of self-fertilization in hermaphrodites is opposed by costs that decrease the value of self progeny relative to that of outcross progeny. However, self-fertilization is common in plants; 20% are highly selfing and 33% are intermediate between selfing and outcrossing.

Effects of reproductive compensation, gamete discounting and reproductive assurance on mating-system diversity in hermaphrodites.

Evolution; international journal of organic evolution, 2008
Hermaphroditism allows considerable scope for contributing genes to subsequent generations through various mixtures of selfed and outcrossed offspring. The fitness consequences of different family compositions determine the evolutionarily stable mating strategy and depend on the interplay of genetic features, the nature of mating, and factors that ...

Reproductive Assurance Through Autogamy in Some Annual Weed Species

Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, India Section B: Biological Sciences, 2014
Weeds have evolved numerous adaptations to establish, survive and spread rapidly in disturbed habitats. Although prolific seed production is recognized as an important adaptation, studies on their pollination ecology, which is the basis of seed production, have remained neglected.

The evolution and prevalence of reproductive assurance in the genus Lachenalia

2015
Since its proposal by Darwin (1876), the concept of reproductive assurance (RA) has been much discussed, modified and tested. It is hypothesized to occur under pollen- and/or mate-limitation, each of which can arise in a multitude of manners, and RA itself takes many forms.

Methodology of information reproduction quality assurance in offset ptinting

2019
