Heterogeneric mating between two Podismini grasshopper species (Orthoptera, Acrididae, Melanoplinae) [PDF]
The observation of mating between species of different genera in field conditions is extremely rare. Here, we report an instance of heterospecific copulation between a male of the Nagy’s mountain grasshopper (Pseudopodisma nagyi) and a female of the ...

We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Antagonism of Tumoral Prolactin Receptor Promotes Autophagy-Related Cell Death
Summary: Therapeutic upregulation of macroautophagy in cancer cells provides an alternative mechanism for cell death. Prolactin (PRL) and its receptor (PRLR) are considered attractive therapeutic targets because of their roles as growth factors in tumor ...

Indirect effects between deer, mice, and the gypsy moth in a forest community [PDF]
White-tailed deer are ecosystem engineers that dramatically alter forest understory vegetation. Consequently, deer can impact many species in a forest through both direct and indirect effects. One species that deer may indirectly affect is the gypsy moth,

Timing feedback-inhibition of the male reproductive hormone axis [PDF]
Hormonal methods of male contraception have addressed feedback-inhbition of the cascade of hormones that has evolved to regulate sperm production but high concentrations of testosterone (T) in the blood have not worked satisfactorily.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.

Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.

Platelets reduce anoikis and promote metastasis by activating YAP1 signaling
Platelets have been associated with increased tumor growth and metastasis but the mechanistic details of this interaction are still unclear. Here the authors show that platelets improve anoikis resistance of cancer cells and increase metastasis by ...
